Best ROG Ally accessories 2024: MicroSD cards, carrying cases, adapters, and more
Get everything you need for your shiny new gaming system.
After getting your hands on your own ASUS ROG Ally or ROG Ally X, you can now experience several PC games and other programs from this gaming handheld. To get the most out of your experience, you'll want to get the best ROG Ally accessories, including peripherals that can keep your new device safe and make it more convenient. Here are the best ROG Ally accessories you can get right now.
Increase the internal SSD storage space of your compatible gaming handheld with this upgrade that can reach fast read speeds up to 5,150 MB/s. You'll need to open your device, remove the original SSD, and then install this one in its place, but it's very easy to do. This is a great product and Western Digital has even provided an official video showing how to install the SSD into the ROG Ally. For additional assistance, check out our guide on how to install the WD_BLACK SSD into an ROG Ally.
Now technically, this carrying case was designed to fit the Steam Deck. However, that shape also makes it ideal as a ROG Ally travel accessory. It has pockets and can hold a number of useful items to take with you on the go. You can read more about his excellent bag in our Tomtoc Arccos-G47 review.
With two USB-A 3.0 ports and two USB-C ports, this handy battery pack is ready to charge up your various devices. Thanks to the 87W max USB-C port it's more than capable of working with ROG Ally. Plus, the included wall charger provides an extra level of convenience so you can easily charge the power bank back up when needed.
As mentioned in our Syntech 6-in-1 docking station review, this is a very inexpensive docking station that allows you to play your ROG Ally on your TV or set it up with your desktop monitor as its own fully-fledged PC. The dock offers several helpful ports including an ethernet port, three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a USB-C PD port.
This docking station was specifically designed to be able to fit the ROG Ally X, thanks to the long cable that can actually reach the handheld's distant ports. It also features six connection areas and supports 4K at 120Hz or 1080p at 240Hz. You can learn more in our JAUX 6-in-1-Multifunctional Docking Station review.
Keep fingerprint smudges away from your ROG Ally with Dbrand's tempered glass screen protector. It's extremely durable to protect against scratches and drops. Not to mention, it fits the display perfectly and is easy to install. This first both the original ROG Ally and the new ROG Ally X.
As you can see from my dBrand ROG Ally Killswitch review, this form-fitting case makes the handheld easier to grip while also supplying it with a kickstand. When you make your purchase, you can also choose which adhesive skin from a list of several different designs you'd like to have shipped with the casing. It's made of quality materials and looks good on the handheld. Note that it does not fit on the new ROG Ally X.
If you anticipate needing a ton of extra space for gaming on the ROG Ally then you need a high-capacity SD Card to do the trick. SanDisk is the brand that I trust most and this 1TB card will give you plenty of extra storage to work with. Just be aware that the ROG Ally can have an overheating issue that causes microSD cards to malfunction. So it might be a better idea to upgrade the SSD rather than get a microSD card.
iVoler makes protecting your ROG Ally display a snap with its easily-installed tempered glass screen protectors. There are three in the box, so you have multiple to rely on in case of an accident. They're durable and anti-scratch. This works with both the original ROG Ally and the new ROG Ally X.
It's water repellent for keeping the gaming handheld safe from rain or accidental spills and features a soft inner mesh material to keep the display safe from scratches. There is also a couple of pockets for SD card storage or even credit cards. This fits both the older Ally and newer Ally X.
I've long been a fan of HyperX thanks to the company's equal dedication to comfort and quality. As explained in my HyperX Cloud 3 review, this latest model feels so comfortable and it easily connects to the ROG Ally via the 3.5mm headphone jack. Plus, the microphone is amazing, perfect for interacting with friends during multiplayer gaming sessions.
As I explained in my ROG Ally review, you can greatly improve the performance of the gaming handheld by connecting it to Asus's external GPU (eGPU). It features a AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT or NVIDIA RTX 3080 and works as a docking station to connect to other accessories or a TV. Note that it cannot connect to the new ROG Ally X without an adapter because the handheld's ports are different from the original Ally's ports.
Make it easier to connect additional accessories to your ROG Ally or Ally X by using this convenient charging dock. It provides an HDMMI 2.0 port and a USB-A 2.0 port in addition to the USB-C charging port. Plus, it's small and easy to travel with.
If you do decide you want to dock your ROG Ally or Ally X to a monitor or TV, then you'll want a reliable wireless gamepad to play it with. There's nothing better than the Xbox Core Wireless Controller, which charges back up with a USB-C connection and features Bluetooth.
The ROG Ally goes anywhere
Why you can trust Windows Central
The ASUS ROG Ally and newer ROG Ally X open up so many fun new opportunities for enjoying handheld gaming, but they can be made even better with the right accessories. Still not convinced by the handheld? Check our full ASUS ROG Ally review or our ROG Ally X review, for a detailed breakdown of what makes these devices so great. You might find that it can do more than you initially thought it could.
After getting an Ally or Ally X, one of the very first things you'll want to do is protect it, and the best way to do that is with the best ROG Ally screen protectors like the trusted Dbrand tempered glass one. Of course, you'll also want to look into a carrying case to protect the joysticks and display from getting damaged in transit. We highly recommend the Tomtoc case. It might have been made for Steam Deck, but it works really well with the Ally, too.
Of course, if you have an ROG Ally X and you'd like to play it while connected to a TV or gaming monitor, then you'll want to get yourself a docking station. However, due to the distant location of the ports on this newer handheld, many docking stations don't have a USB-C cable long enough to reach this connection point. That's why the JSAUX 6-in-1 Multifunctional Docking Station is an excellent choice. It was specifically designed to work with ROG Ally X, with a USB-C cable that can easily reach the ports. It works with other gaming handhelds, as well.
If you want the best gaming headset experience with the ROG Ally, I highly recommend the HyperX Cloud III. It's incredibly comfortable and is one of the few headsets I've ever used that provides a good-quality microphone at this price. Not to mention, the sound quality is particularly impressive.
